The European Commission has opened a public consultation until 22 October on new genomic techniques. This initiative will propose a legal framework for plants obtained by targeted mutagenesis and cisgenesis and for their food and feed products.

SPD#2: New Genetic Engineering
To discuss policy developments that affect crop diversity movements, the European Coordination Let’s Liberate Diversity (ECLLD) has launched a series of virtual Seed Policy Dialogues in April 2021. Built as a monthly exchange meeting with lawyer Fulya Batur, ECLLD Members and all interested parties, the Dialogues analysed the monthly “Sprouts From Brussels” newsletter and discussed a wide range of topics related to seeds, with precious external contributions, and interpretation into French (at times also Italian and German). In April 2021, the SPD covered the topic of new genetic engineering.
